Thank you for your interest in the OSAT Glacier Climbing Course.

Signing up here does not guarantee a spot in the course. If your application is accepted, you will be notified by the GCC Registrar by November 21, 2016 and you will receive instructions on how to pay the $140 course fee at that time.

The GCC is for members of a 12 step recovery program, their family and friends.

This course is designed for people who enjoy the outdoors and want to learn more about, and participate in, mountaineering and glacier travel.

During the six month course, students learn about equipment selection and usage, group safety, wilderness navigation, proper ice axe usage, roped travel, crevasse rescue and snow camping.

The course requires participants to undertake a serious conditioning and training regimen. This will prepare you to climb mountains safely like Mt. Baker at 10,781 ft. and Mt. Rainier at 14,411 ft.  Seminars, field trips and conditioners require 100 percent attendance in order to be eligible for graduation.

It is imperative that you clear your calendar with employers, teachers and family in advance of signing up to ensure that you can attend all events.

In addition, you will be required to complete at least one scheduled conditioning hike per month, generally a half-day or longer outing of 6 to 10 miles and 2,500 to 4,000 feet elevation gain.

The course fee of $140 covers the cost of the syllabus, maps needed for the navigation segment, group gear, classroom space, and Mount Rainier climbing fees. The fee must be paid by December 17th, 2016.

The course fee is 100% non-refundable after the first seminar.  If you sign up for the course and decide to withdraw before the first seminar a refund will be made to you by check of the fee, minus a $30 processing charge, if there are people on the wait list willing to take your place.

After the first 60 students are selected, the next 20 students will be put on a wait-list. Wait-listed members will be notified by email should an opening become available. Please check email daily to respond in a timely manner or forfeit the opportunity. If you haven't been notified by email of an opening it is strongly suggested you attend the first seminar and be prepared to pay on that evening if you still wish to join the course.

If you are interested in taking the 2016 Glacier Climbing Course and the course is full, please sign up on the wait list or contact the 2017 GCC Registrar:
